Larkins
On Wednesday, I had the pleasure of seeing a small band from Manchester called Larkins at Hoxton Square Bar and Gardens. I have been following Larkins for a few months now after finding out about them on Instagram through an advert where they were advertising their latest song 'TV Dream'. I heard the song and thought it was quite good so I stopped scrolling to listen and then after that I went over to their instagram and gave them a follow and went over to their Spotify to listen to the whole song. The song is catchy, upbeat and is right up my street.
On the day of the gig, Larkins put on their instagram that they would let the first 30 people into the gig early to watch the band warm up, get some free merchandise and hang out with the band. as soon as I saw this, I messaged my mate Oscar who I was going with to tell him that we were going to get there early. We got there and were one of the first people in the queue so we timed it to perfection. It got to about Half 6 and they let us in the venue and then we walked trough to the stage and the staff gave us a free t-shirt and then Larkins were on set testing out their gear. After everything was sorted, they asked if there was any particular song that we wanted to her them warm up with. One girl shouted 'TV Dream' and another person shouted 'Sugar Sweet' and so they played Sugar Sweet which was cool. After that, they hopped down and had a chat to everyone was were really cool and chilled. It was something they had never done before and something I've never been too so it was a cool experience!!
Corella
Until the day, I didn't realise there was going to be a support act, however on the set list, it said there was which was cool because it's always nice to see smaller bands play to get the crowd warmed up. I've never heard of Corella however, they were one of the best support acts I've seen live mainly because they got the crowd moving and their music was very similar to Larkins which meant everyone was enjoying it. They got everyone dancing, clapping and made sure everyone was having a good time. After they had finished performing, I looked them up on Spotify and their songs are so good so it was cool to find a new band to get into and I will definitely be seeing them live again soon!!
Larkins
Now was time for the band we had been waiting for! All the lights went out and they came on stage and started off with 'Are We Having Any Fun Yet' which is a song I hadn't heard of yet but was definitely one I am going to go back and listen to. They played about 10 songs including a new unreleased song called 'Pink and Blue' which is sounding amazing and can't wait for it to be released. My favourite songs of theirs are 'Hit And Run' and 'TV Dream' just because they're so upbeat and a classic summer tune. The overall sound of Larkins is very similar to The 1975 which is why I quite like their music. Me and Oscar stood to the side but we were next to the guy that was sorting out all the guitars for them and had a set list and at the end I noticed it and told Oscar about it because when the show finished, we weren't sure if their was going to be an encore or not so we had a look and it was the last song but then the security guard handed the set list to me and said 'I saw you looking at it' which was nice because I've always seen people get set lists at concerts before but never gotten one myself.
Overall, it was a great concert and definitely two bands that I would strongly consider seeing again and recommend to my friends. Both bands have a big future ahead of them so it will be interesting to see them grow to sell out bigger venues and world tours. Larkins are already playing another gig in June at Camden in London, which I am already going to because their first concert was that good so it will be cool to see them again!!
That will be it for this blog, I hope you enjoyed and if you have any questions, please don't forget to message me via my socials: Twitter, Instagram or Facebook!! Until next time...
Byeeee :)
